The 35th Annual Wine Tasting is coming soon!
The 35th Annual Wine Tasting will be held in April 2008 at the beautiful Lakeside Pavilion in Chico. The date and time TBA. Bringing over 75 wineries as well as a selection of local beer and olive oils, this event attracts over 550 people each year. In keeping with tradition, League members will again be preparing a light buffet of exceptional dishes for all to enjoy.
Tickets can be purchased for $25 through members of the League and supportive local businesses in Chico. Tickets may also be purchased at the door for $30.
This annual fundraiser for the League of Women Voters of Butte County has become a time honored tradition. Proceeds from the event help the League continue its important work in the areas of voter service and education throughout the community.

Fundraising
Any non-profit organization is faced with funding challenges. Many can rely on grants, but others have to turn to their members in order to raise funds. The League of Women Voters in Butte County has been extremely fortunate in our efforts to raise money to support our initiatives. For the last 34 years we have held an annual Wine Tasting and Light Buffet. This single event generates enough revenue to fund our organization’s mission in the areas of voter service and education.
Each spring the Butte County community turns out in droves to support the League through this elegant event. Held for the last several years at Lakeside Pavilion, we usually draw a crowd of over 500. Local, national, and international wines are featured with help from our partners; wine shop Vino 100 and restaurant and wine bar Redwood Forest. Many people come for the food as well. Our menu features dishes which have become synonymous with our League chapter – Dolma’s and Tiropete’s – among a fabulous spread of cheeses, fruit, and generally 10 other passed and buffet appetizers.
Nearly all League members participate in the event. In addition to selling four tickets, members contribute in a myriad of ways. From set up to food preparation to decorating to wine stewards – there’s a role for the approximately members of our local chapter. Members also get time to relax and enjoy the wine tasting when their shift is over. The public generally starts lining up to get in the door a half-hour before the doors open and some have even been known to stay and help clean up. The League of Women Voter’s Wine Tasting Fundraiser has definitely gained a reputation of being a fun, community event in addition to a worth-while cause.
